Pinocchio

Sweet and precious wooden boy

You’re nothing but a hollow toy

No words or voice

Though thoughts explore

What makes you you or something more

Sweet and precious wooden boy

Who’s nothing but a hollow toy

You wish for things

But please ignore

They’re out of reach and far off shore

Sweet and lovely little girl

Wished for a friend who she’d adore

Some one to hear and understand

And laugh and play and hold her hand

Sweet and lovely little girl

Wished for a friend who she’d adore

She found an empty little thing

A boy-shaped doll in suffering

Filled up the doll, its vacant parts

Sewed up a tiny little heart

Gave him a name, a voice, and breath

No more a wooden thing bereft
