Staring at the Sun

Before my eyes did see the sight

Of this girl, I’d been blind;

Content to see

Or think I’d see

The world and all around.

Before my eyes could catch the sight

Of her in all her bliss,

I likened sight

Of things that might

Compare to nothingness.

Before my gaze perceived the sight

Of Heaven and its hold,

The sky and stars

And oceans far

Meant nothing to my soul.

But once my eyes did see the sight

This angel, I confess,

Replaced this heart

With love to start

And sight and life and breath.
