Learn to Smile

Once there lived a happy child

His smile was sweet–his temper mild

And all his days were spent in play

The gentle sun never fading away

And even when his heart did ache

This smile, it never left his face

For placed within this boy’s young soul

A lesson once his father told

‘Even when the sky is grey

And all the light has gone away

Keep your smile–don’t let it go

Hold it to your heart and close

For when the world in darkness shakes

Your joy will bring the night to day’.

So even when the world was swept

In shadows while the children slept

Young boy did smile his fears away

Til all the night returned to day

I like the light touch of serious mixed with lighthearted simplicity of how a child views the world. This worked really well.
